The three governing parties - the Social Democrats ( SPD ), the Greens and the FDP - are more skeptical. Defense Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD) is something of an outsider within the government. He described the suspension of compulsory military service in 2011 as a "mistake" and wants a public debate about its reintroduction.
